Magnus Eriksson

Piratbyran

Magnus is a co-founder of Piratbyrån (The Pirate Bureau), established in 2003 and closed in 7 years time, while creating The Pirate Bay and The Pirate Party.

Piratbyrån was not an organization but an on-going conversation habit on copyright, file-sharing and digital culture. To advance this conversation, Piratbyrån has been using a wide range of innovative, experimental, often humorous techniques – as well as traditional ones, while organizing public discussions, interviews and creating publications. The resulting debate has been a multi-layered one, ranging from technological (e.g. The Pirate Bay), artistic (e.g. a bus tour through Europe to Manifesta 08) to political (e.g. Pirate Party) themes. With very limited resources, Piratbyrån has been able to galvanize a political movement that has already shaped the development of digital culture and public policy in Sweden and across Europe, pushing the boundaries of the possible.
