Crisis simulation and contingency planning

The workshop will comprise a simulation of a security crisis. Activists will be divided into three groups and confronted with real-life security scenarios. They will be encouraged to work collaboratively to solve the problem, drawing from their own experience, using their available resources.The crisis simulation will be followed by a debrief based on each group’s perceived priorities.At the end of the workshop,  there will be a brief presentation in two parts. The first part will deal with surveillance risk assessment, providing the fundamental knowledge and necessary tools to identify the threats and adversaries, evaluate the risks of surveillance and take appropriate steps to guard against it and protect valuable assets. The second part will introduce the notion of crisis management, or the process that helps activists and civil society organisations in the event of an impending crisis, to identify potential threats, build an effective response that safeguards the organisation’s resilience, the interests of stakeholders and restores operational capabilities.
